The draw of the 2025 Australian Open has been officially released. The top favorite to lift the trophy – Jannik Sinner – can be very pleased looking at his potential path at Melbourne Park. The defending champion – who wants to win the third Major title of his young career – avoided both Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic until the final.

The world number 1 arrived in Australia well in advance although he has decided not to play official tournaments before the AO, in order to test the courts and assess his condition well after training hard in the last month.

Jannik Sinner’s path at the AO

The 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria will make his debut on Day 1 against Chilean Nicolas Jarry, who can be a dangerous opponent on this surface. Jarry won a set against Jannik in Beijing last year, before suffering the comeback of the Italian ace and surrendering in three sets.

In the second round, the 2-time Grand Slam champion will face the winner of the match between Daniel and Schoolkate, while in the third round there could be the Italian derby against Flavio Cobolli. His possible rivals in the round of 16 are Hubert Hurkacz, Holger Rune or Matteo Berrettini, who reached the semifinals here in 2022.

In the quarterfinals, Sinner could face Alex de Minaur (whom he has always defeated on the professional tour) or Stefanos Tsitsipas, who has almost always played his best tennis in this tournament. The finalist of the 2023 edition is not having a great time, but he has already beaten Jannik at the AOs in both 2022 and 2023.

In the semifinals, the Italian’s opponent should be Taylor Fritz, who played very well in 2024 and entered the Top 5 for the first time in his career, but we will have to be very careful with Daniil Medvedev, who reached the final at the AO in 2021, 2022 and 2024. The last rival before the title could be Alcaraz, Zverev or Djokovic.
