Novak Djokovic’s new ‘secret’ weapon has drawn a strong response

Novak Djokovic has revealed his latest weapon in the fight against stomach issues and inflammation, a magnetic “energetic disc”.

An established anti-vaxxer, the tennis great has previously worn a patch on his chest during matches and stated “prayer and gratitude” can turn toxic food or water into “healing water”.

On the eve of the Australian Open, Djokovic has now extolled the benefits of an “energetic disc” he says he takes with him everywhere.

In a social media post published by GQ, the 37-year-old has the green disc in his hands while explaining its powers.

“It’s (an) energetic disc, creates an electromagnetic field around it and (the) kind of secret is in this pattern,” Djokovic begins in the video you can see below.

“And so when you place it on a certain part of your body, place this part, for example, if you have stomach issues, which I do have often when I’m nervous, stressed before the match or indigestion issues, that’s (sic) creates heat.

“So then it starts enhancing the metabolic functions or it reduces inflammation in certain part of the body.”

Djokovic has had another controversial build-up to this year’s opening grand slam tournament in Melbourne, telling GQ in an interview he believes he was “poisoned” while he was detained before being deported from the country in 2022.

He then opted against expanding on that claim in his pre-tournament press conference on Friday.

Only players that had received a Covid vaccine were permitted to compete in that 2022 Open, with the Serbian falsely stating he had an “exemption permission” before his visa was cancelled and he was removed from the country.

Expanding on the magnetic disc, Djokovic said it had been created specifically for him.

“A doctor that I know in Serbia, who is also an engineer, he created this disc for me and I have a bunch of those and I do carry it everywhere,” he said.

“When I fly in the plane, I put it on (my) head or somewhere.

“I shouldn’t be having it on the body parts for too long, so like 20-30 minutes it does its work.”

The video has sparked a strong reaction on social media, with Brien Seeney’s NRL PHYSIO account on X tweeting the video with the caption: “Take me now, I have seen it all.”

One comment on that post asked: “Any comment on other sportsmen that think they’ll win games if they wear a certain pair of underpants before a game?”

Another wrote: “I hear if you put it on your head it will prevent concussions.”

A third quipped: “Add some crystals and he could win Bathurst.”

One X user referenced infommercials when writing: “But wait – there’s more! If you call in the next 60 seconds, we’ll throw in a box of left handed screwdrivers and a packet of skyhooks.”

Another stated bluntly: “So, he’s an idiot?”

There were some users who attempted to defend Djokovic and his belief in the device.

“There’s tons of research on PEMF. Look it up, it works,” was one comment.

“Read George Lakhovsky, waves that heal,” suggested another.

For the record, PEMFs – or Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields – along with Lakhovsky’s Multiple Wave Oscillator invented in the 1930s, both involve the use of electric currents.

The Australian Open officially gets under at Melbourne Park on Sunday, January 12.
