The Miami Dolphins and safety Jevon Holland are entering an important time.
The 24-year-old will enter unrestricted free agency this offseason if the Dolphins don’t do anything to retain him before he hits the open market in March.
With his future in question, he recently spoke about where his head is at and whether he wants to be back with the Dolphins.
“Yeah, you know, I do, but I’m also open to the possibility of being somewhere else,” Holland said regarding the possibility of returning to the Dolphins. “I’m not necessarily — I wouldn’t hate the idea of coming back. I wouldn’t hate the idea of leaving. I’m kinda just — it almost feels like I’m back preparing for the draft again, kinda thing, like, wherever life takes me is where life takes me, and I’m gonna be put in the position that God wants me to go, and I can’t control anything else.”
Last month, a report indicated that the Dolphins may let Holland test unrestricted free agency.

Meanwhile, an update earlier this month indicated that Holland returning to the Dolphins is definitely on the table.
“Impending free agent Jevon Holland said he would love to return next season and there have been conversations with the Dolphins and his agent David Mulugheta,” wrote Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald on X. “Whether Fins carve out the cap space – when they’re up against the cap – is the question that must play out. He could get a big offer elsewhere, of course.”
To this point, Holland has spent his entire NFL career with the Dolphins after they drafted him in the second round in 2021. The safety has had some ups and downs with Miami but has overall been a very important piece for the team during his tenure.
That makes his future a critical topic of discussion as the Dolphins enter an important offseason in which they’ll try to recover from a disappointing 2024 campaign. Miami just wrapped up the season with a losing record, giving the franchise its first sub-.500 mark in several years.
Holland helped the Dolphins reach the playoffs in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, but the franchise didn’t reach that stage this time around, leading to major disappointment in South Florida.
Whatever Holland’s future holds, he will certainly play a key role for some team next season and beyond. It’s interesting to hear him compare his current situation to the one that he was in leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft. For many players, the draft is a complete adventure in the sense that there are so many different places they could land.
In Holland’s case, he had to hear 35 players get their names called before he came off the board at No. 36 overall in 2021. The question now is whether the Dolphins will call his name again this offseason in a way that ensures that he’ll return to the team.
