Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens ran over the Pittsburgh Steelers with 299 rushing yards on Saturday night, advancing to next weekend’s AFC divisional round.
The 28-14 wild card win was only the third playoff victory of Jackson’s seven-year NFL career, dating back to 2018 when he was selected with the final draft pick of first round.
As he looks to reach his first Super Bowl in 2025, a video of Jackson’s draft night interview with Deion Sanders in 2018 was again making the rounds on social media on Saturday.
The fan video, captioned “Ravens win & this becomes the hardest clip of all time,” has been viewed over one million times since it was posted on Saturday.
In it, the then-21-year-old dual-threat quarterback acknowledged he was upset about falling to the No. 32 overall pick as the fifth passer off the board behind Baker Mayfield (No. 1), Sam Darnold (No. 3), Josh Allen (No. 7) and Josh Rosen (No. 10).
When asked what Baltimore was getting by drafting the former Louisville star, Jackson said, “Everything out of me. They gonna get a Super Bowl out of me. Believe that. Believe that.”
At the time, Baltimore had to trade back up into round one with the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles to secure Jackson’s services. It marked their second first-round pick of the night after selecting tight end Hayden Hurst at No. 25.
The Ravens traded their 2018 second and fourth-round picks, as well as a 2019 second-rounder and got back a 2018 fourth-rounder from Philly for the eventual two-time league MVP. Safe to say it has worked out pretty well for both parties.
