Reilly Opelka’s uncle, Mike, had a four-word reaction to Novak Djokovic reaching out to his nephew during his injury crisis. Opelka recently faced Djokovic in the 2025 Brisbane International.
Opelka’s uncle took to X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, January 11, 2025, to share his thoughts about Novak Djokovic. He reshared a short clip from Djokovic’s recent press conference at the Australian Open, captioning it:
“This guy. Class act. @DjokerNole”
At the press conference, Novak Djokovic was asked about his relationship with Reilly Opelka and the recent messages he sent to the American, inquiring about his health and injury.
Djokovic responded:
“ I love Reilly! I think he’s just such a great guy. I actually appreciated a lot of the support he’s given over the years. He’s said a lot of nice things in the media about me and shown support on social media, especially when I was facing some difficulties. So, I tried to be supportive of him during the couple of years of injury struggles that he had.”
He also shared his concerns about the American:
“ I actually met him yesterday and asked him about his back, as that’s bothering him now. It’s not easy for a guy who’s 6’10” or 6’11” to play every single day. I guess it’s a lot of physical burden for him.”
When asked about his last match against Opelka, the Serb laughed and said:
“I don’t appreciate him beating me in Brisbane, but he played an amazing match, and it was great to see him performing so well.”
Reilly Opelka pulled off a stunning upset in the quarterfinals of the Brisbane International, defeating Novak Djokovic 7-6(6), 6-3.
