In just under a week the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Houston Texans in a battle of AFC foes with their eyes on the AFC title game.
Kansas City clinched the AFC’s No. 1 seed on Christmas Day with a blowout victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers that afforded the team a chance to rest its starters against the Denver Broncos. They received an extra week of rest this weekend while the rest of the AFC playoff teams were putting their bodies on the line.
Houston, meanwhile, easily dispatched star quarterback Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers to set up a date against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. While this year’s Texans team doesn’t seem to have the magic of last year’s, they still have plenty of firepower on offense.
Ahead of the showdown, Mahomes and wife Brittany were in a celebratory mood by welcoming their third child, daughter Golden Raye Mahomes. All of Kansas City seemingly celebrated the birth of Golden, including Union Station.
“It’s a three-peat! Congratulations, Brittany and Patrick! After celebratory lightings in February 2021 for baby Sterling and November 2022 for Patrick “Bronze” Lavon, tonight Union Station is bathed in gold as we join the KC community in congratulating @brittanylynne and @patrickmahomes on the arrival of their third child, Golden Raye Mahomes,” the account said on social media this afternoon.
Brittany, who gave birth to Golden on Jan. 12, 2025, saw the post and couldn’t help but react with a two word message.
“Love this,” she said with a tearing up emoji and a heart emoji.
Brittany and the family will likely be watching Saturday afternoon’s game against the Texans from the comfort of their own home.
Kansas City and Houston kick off at 4:30 p.m. EST on ABC, ESPN and ESPN+.
