Star WR Shows Apparent Interest in Playing for Cowboys Coaching Candidate

The Dallas Cowboys officially parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy on Monday morning, leaving the team way behind in the search and interview process. Most head coaching candidates have already completed their first interviews with teams. This includes Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who can’t interview again until the week before the Super Bowl or the Lions are eliminated from the playoffs.

That said, it seems that Jerry Jones might already have an idea of who he wants his next head coach to be. According to Jordan Schultz, Jones has spoken to former Cowboys legend and current Colorado Buffaloes HC Deion Sanders about taking over in Dallas.

This news has spread quickly to players around the league and helped garner potential interest in joining the Cowboys this offseason.

Star wide receiver Davante Adams was on Kay Adams’s show Tuesday morning and was asked if Sanders to the Cowboys is attractive to players. Adams responded, “You talk about a players coach… He has a special way of doing it. He’s got the respect of most players in the league.”

Although Adams doesn’t explicitly say he will come to Dallas if Deion becomes head coach, his words suggest it. Adams comments about how guys respect Deion and how he is a player’s coach, showing massive appreciation for what Deion has done with the Buffaloes.

While Adams’s sentiments have been echoed by everyone in the football world, he is entitled to his own opinion of a person. So the fact he said this for the public to hear shows that Adams is truly interested in playing for Deion.

That seems to leave the ball in Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ court for bringing Adams in. The 32-year-old is coming off a season where he recorded 67 receptions on 114 targets for 854 yards and seven touchdowns. Even though Adams is still a top receiver in the NFL, it’s likely he’s chasing a ring and would be willing to take a salary cut.

That would work out in the Cowboys’ favor, given Jones didn’t want to sign Derrick Henry last because of cap restraints. If the Cowboys were to hire Deion and acquire Adams, they could be right back in the mix to make the Super Bowl.
