Patrick Mahomes had quite the eventful weekend away from the gridiron.
Fortunately for the MVP quarterback, the Kansas City Chiefs earned a first-round playoff bye following a 15-win season. He and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, welcomed their third child on Sunday.
The couple announced the birth of their second daughter, Golden Raye Mahomes. They also share a three-year-old girl, Sterling Skye, and a two-year-old boy, “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III.
On Tuesday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid playfully encouraged Mahomes to “add a couple more” children. He dubiously claimed that raising four or five kids is “easy” after already having three.
Mahomes disagreed when informed of Reid’s suggestion.
“I’m good with three for right now,” Mahomes told reporters. “We’ll see down the line, maybe, but my goal was always three. So we had three, and we’ll stick there for a while and see if we need to come back and get another one later on.”
Of course, one would figure Brittany has a bigger say than Patrick or Coach Reid. She’s the one who’s endured three pregnancies in four years and is home with a newborn as the six-time Pro Bowler prepares for an AFC Divisional Round showdown against the Houston Texans.
The playoff schedule aligned perfectly with Brittany’s due date, allowing Patrick to be by his wife’s side without any work scheduling conflicts.
“It’s a special moment that a lot of dads and moms have experienced, and you don’t forget about that stuff,” Mahomes said. “So I was glad I was able to be there and support in the best way I can.”
However, the 29-year-old still kept tabs on the NFL postseason’s opening round.
“It was cool that football was on TV when I was in the hospital, so I got to watch a little bit,” he said. “Brittany was kind enough to let us watch football.”
Three kids may be enough, but Mahomes will certainly welcome more Super Bowl championships. Saturday’s home game against the Texans starts at 4:30 p.m. ET on ABC and ESPN.
