The fate of the Cowboys has looked bleak without Dak Prescott.

Dallas’ QB1 went down with a hamstring injury in the team’s Week 9 loss to the Falcons, and the status of his return was questionable. Cooper Rush played in his absence against the Eagles in Week 10 and produced a miserable 34-6 loss, sparking more worry for the future of the team’s season.

Going into a highly anticipated matchup against the Texans on “Monday Night Football,” Prescott is still out. Will the star quarterback be back on the field again this season?

Here’s the latest on Prescott.

Will Dak Prescott play again this season?

Prescott is out for the rest of the season, the team announced Tuesday.

The 31-year-old elected to have surgery on his hamstring, effectively ending his 2024 campaign. The procedure comes with a three-month recovery timeline, which means Prescott won’t see the field again until next fall.

Star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was among several of Prescott’s teammates to speak on the injury.

“Unfortunately, we lost our quarterback, which is terrible and deflating,” said Lamb.

With this, Cooper Rush will be back under center for the foreseeable future.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones still has hope for the backup despite his terrible performance against Philadelphia.

“Cooper has shown that he has the capability to compete and win in games,” Jones said. “He does give us our best chance. Frankly, that was really an out-of-character game for him based on what we’ve seen and we know about Cooper.”
