The Kansas City Chiefs are going to their seventh straight AFC championship game after beating the Houston Texans 23-14 on Saturday. Behind a dominant defensive performance in the second half, the Chiefs victory was never in doubt despite a strong Texans showing.

While Chiefs fans have every right to celebrate their big win on their way to a historic three-peat, there were a few plays that raised the concern level among the fanbase.

Cornerback Trent McDuffie suffered an injury on Houston’s first drive and received medical attention before returning to action. Later in the same quarter, Bryan Cook was evaluated for a concussion but was able to return. In the final quarter, star safety Justin Reid was injured in a collision with WR Nico Collins. He was also able to return later and played a part in the late-game blocked field goal.

Head coach Andy Reid provided a much-anticipated update on the injured players. Per Chiefs insider Pete Sweeney, the team came out without any serious injuries.

No Chiefs Player Suffered a Serious Injury vs. Texans

This is excellent news for the Chiefs. Even though Kansas City has the depth to deal with injuries on their defensive backfield, they need their full complement of players when going up against the Ravens or the Bills.

We will likely get another update in the next few days but it doesn’t sound like any Chiefs player who suited up against Houston is in real danger of missing the AFC championship game. Of course, things can change between now and Sunday, but the Chiefs look like they will mostly be healthy heading into next week.

As if you needed another reason to believe that the Chiefs should be favored to win the Super Bowl.
