The San Francisco 49ers drop to .500 on the year following their 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 11. In a tight division race, the red and gold now have matching 5-5 records with the Los Angeles Rams and Seahawks, however, they trail both in the standings when it comes to NFC West wins.
Here are five takeaways from the Seahawks vs. 49ers game:
Brock Purdy and the Offense
Purdy connected on 21-of-28 pass attempts for 159 yards, a touchdown and an interception in his sixth start against the Seahawks. The third-year quarterback was the first player to put points on the board for the 49ers, capping off a 12-play, 71 yard drive with a 10-yard rushing touchdown. Purdy ran up the right sideline and stretched out for the pylon to get the 49ers out in front in the final minute of the first quarter.
Wide receiver Jauan Jennings was Purdy’s top target of the day, catching 10 passes for 91 yards for a touchdown. He had four catches for 42 yards and a touchdown on the 49ers final 14-play scoring drive.
Nick Bosa Stacks the Sacks
The fifth-year defensive lineman now has a four-game sack streak going in this middle stretch of the season. Bosa got home on Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith on third-and-long of their opening drive for a loss of seven yards. That sack backed up Seattle’s offense and forced them to settle for the 52-yard field goal and brought Bosa season sack count to 6.0. He added another sack in the third quarter.
Yetur Gross-Matos Makes a Big Return Off Injured Reserve
Gross-Matos came off Injured Reserve on Saturday just in time to provide some depth to the 49ers defensive line. In his first game back from a knee injury, he made his presence known. In the second quarter following Purdy’s interception, the fifth-year pro produced a critical third-down sack to keep Seattle from converting and continuing to move the ball down the field. Instead, they were pushed back to the 49ers 39 yard line and only managed to cash in on a 57-yard field goal. That score cut San Francisco’s lead to one point with eight minutes left in the half.
Isaac Yiadom Creates a Turnover
San Francisco’s dominant defense continued their tear in the third quarter of Sunday’s matchup. Pressure from the 49ers defensive line collapsed the pocket, put Smith on the run and an errant throw was picked off by cornerback Isaac Yiadom. He returned the ball 11 yards to give the 49ers possession at Seattle’s 27 yard line. San Francisco capitalized on the ensuing drive scoring on a 33-yard field goal from kicker Jake Moody.
Injuries of the Game
- Cornerback Renardo Green (finger) exited the game with an injury a minute before the end of the first half. He was replaced by Rock Ya-Sin, however, Green returned to action in the third quarter.
- Wide receiver Jacob Cowing (concussion) was ruled out of the game in the third quarter.
- Linebacker Tatum Bethune (knee) was ruled out of the game in the third quarter.
