The Philadelphia Eagles are preparing for their divisional-round playoff showdown against the Los Angeles Rams, but offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has an extra challenge on his mind.
Following Mike McCarthy’s exit on Monday, the Dallas Cowboys’ head coaching position opened up, and Dallas wasted no time throwing their hat in Moore’s ring.
On Friday, he completed a virtual interview with Dallas, quickly emerging as a frontrunner for one of the NFL’s most prestigious roles.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo shared insights about the interview process, as Jane Slater reported that Moore’s initial conversation with the Cowboys went well.
“The Insiders on @NFLGameDay: #Eagles OC Kellen Moore had a good first interview with the #Cowboys, with his former teammate Jason Witten still possibly in the mix somewhere in Dallas, as @SlaterNFL has mentioned.”
A return to America’s Team would mark a full-circle moment for Moore.
Kellen Moore’s Cowboys story started in 2018 when he stepped in as the quarterbacks coach.
Then, in a blink, he was promoted to offensive coordinator after just one season of coaching.
The impact was immediate and impressive.
Under Moore’s guidance, Dak Prescott transformed from being tagged as a mere “game manager” to a quarterback who could light up the scoreboard.
The numbers tell the story – Prescott’s average passing yards skyrocketed to over 300 per game.
With Moore orchestrating the offense, the Cowboys dominated the league in total yards and passing efficiency.
The chemistry between Prescott and Moore runs deep, dating back to their days as backup quarterbacks behind Tony Romo.
Their connection has helped elevate Prescott into the elite tier of NFL quarterbacks.
The Cowboys aren’t limiting their search, though.
They’ve lined up interviews with Robert Saleh for Saturday and Leslie Frazier for Monday.
Other notable candidates include Aaron Glenn, Kliff Kingsbury, and potentially Brian Schottenheimer.
Even the intriguing possibility of Deion Sanders remains in play.
Yet Moore’s candidacy stands out.
His history with the team, proven success as a coordinator, and strong relationship with Prescott make him an especially compelling choice for the Cowboys’ future.
