The big match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic promises to give fans a lot of emotions. These two great champions will already face each other in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open, as the Serbian legend slipped to number 7 in the ATP ranking after a 2024 season below expectations.

The young Spanish champion will start as favorite tomorrow, being fresher and having already shown that he can also defeat Nole in Grand Slam tournaments. Their last official match was the final of the Paris Olympics in the summer of 2024, in which Novak overturned the odds on the eve of the match by winning the gold medal thanks to an epic performance.

No one expected Djokovic’s triumph on red clay, moreover after being demolished by Carlitos in the final of the Wimbledon Championships just a few weeks earlier. The 21-year-old from Murcia will not be able to underestimate an icon of the sport, who is still able to play at a very high level at almost 38 years old.

A dream match in Melbourne

The current world number 7 is looking to win the 25th Major title of his glorious career, the 11th at Melbourne Park. The 37-year-old from Belgrade knows that he will need a performance bordering on perfection and that his body will have to be in top shape, but he confessed that he is ready for this challenge and knows Carlitos’ weaknesses.

Analyzing this dream match for Eurosport, former world No.1 Mats Wilander said that Nole has his chances of reaching the semifinals: “Novak Djokovic has a reason to win because he doesn’t lose on this court very often. This is his home, this is his living room. That’s the main reason.

The second reason is that I believe he gets more free points off of his serve. I think he serves better than Alcaraz.

I am not saying that I think Djokovic is going to win, but those two reasons are two reasons why I think he could win.”
