2024 ATP Tour Awards – ft. Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic

2024 ATP Tour Awards - ft. Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic

Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic.

The 2024 ATP Tour season is done and dusted, with action at the ATP Finals in Turin bringing proceedings to a close until 2025.

With that in mind, we’ve looked back over the past 11 months to hand out our 2024 ATP Tour awards.

Best Player: Jannik Sinner

This one feels quite a safe and obvious choice, with Sinner having dominated throughout most of 2024.

Alongside winning his first Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open and US Open, he won eight titles in total – including three Masters 1000 triumphs, and the ATP Finals this week.

With a 3,915-point cushion in the ATP Rankings, the 23-year-old was the only player who could win this award.

Best Match: Carlos Alcaraz def Jannik Sinner, China Open Final

Sinner won a lot in 2024, but he was on the wrong side of the result in our best ATP match of the year.

He and Alcaraz duelled for over three hours in the China Open in Beijing, only for the Spaniard to win the final seven points to claim an enthralling 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-6(3) triumph.

Best Moment: Novak Djokovic, Olympic Games

No moment this season stirred up as much emotion as Djokovic’s incredible Olympic Games triumph back in August.

Amid a challenging season elsewhere, the Serbian’s emotional triumph over Alcaraz to claim his first gold medal – in his fifth, and potentially final, attempt – was one of the highlights of Paris 2024.

Most Improved: Taylor Fritz

Arthur Fils and Jack Draper were among the contenders here, but Fritz has turned himself from a very good ATP player to a potential Grand Slam contender over the past 12 months.

The US No 1 reached his first major final at the US Open back in September but also matched or achieved career-best results at the three other Grand Slam tournaments as well.

At a career-high of world No 4, Fritz’s improvement was among the most significant of 2024.

Breakout Star: Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard

One of several talented French stars breaking through, Mpetshi Perricard demonstrated that he could become an absolute nightmare to face in a breakout 2024 season.

The big-serving Frenchman won his first ATP title in Lyon and later that summer made it to the fourth round of Wimbledon, despite only getting in the draw as a lucky loser.

A run to the title in Basel – not dropping serve on the way – towards the end of the year was a further reminder of his potential heading into 2025.

Coach of the Year: Simone Vagnozzi & Darren Cahill

Vagnozzi and Cahill both deserve credit for helping shape Sinner into a truly dominant figure in the men’s game.

After an encouraging end to 2023, the Italian and Australian pushed the 23-year-old to two majors and the world No 1 ranking in an incredible season.

Biggest Upset: Botic van de Zandschulp def Carlos Alcaraz, US Open

Not only the biggest shock of 2024 but one of the biggest shocks in recent years – and in US Open history.

Alcaraz was many people’s favourite for the US Open title but the third seed was dumped out of the event in lopsided fashion in the second round, van de Zandschulp delivering the performance of his life in a 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 triumph.

One to Watch: Jakub Mensik

Ending the year inside the top 50 despite an injury midway through the season, Czech teen Mensik is one to look out for in 2025.

The 19-year-old reached his first ATP Tour final in Doha, reached the third round of the US Open for the second straight year, and picked up four top-10 wins in an impressive year.
