On Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys announced they have hired Sorensen to be their special teams coordinator, replacing John “Bones” Fassel, who left that role to take the same position with the Tennesse Titans. Fassel served under the now-fired Mike McCarthy in Dallas last season.
Sorensen doesn’t have much special teams experience and has coached that unit just one season before, in 2021 on a Jaguars staff that also included Schottenheimer.
Schottenheimer and Sorensen also worked together with the Seahawks from 2018-20.
Sorensen joined San Francisco in 2022 as an assistant before he was promoted to defensive pass game specialist and nickel backs coach. He then replaced Steve Wilks as defensive coordinator after the 2023 season.
Robert Saleh returns to San Francisco this season to run the defense once again after coordinating the defense from 2017-2020.
