“BREAKING: Yankees Strike Deal to Bring Back Lefty Reliever Tim Hill (Source)!”

Tim Hill is returning to the Yankees on a one-year, $2.85 million contract with a club option for 2026, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand on Tuesday.

The club has not confirmed the deal, which will pay Hill $2.5 million in 2025. The club option is for $3 million and includes a $350,000 buyout, per Feinsand.

Hill was a key member of the Yankees’ bullpen in 2024, including for their postseason run. The Yankees signed the veteran left-hander in June after he was released by the White Sox, and Hill posted a 2.05 ERA in 44 innings over 35 relief appearances for New York.

Hill also had a 1.08 ERA in 10 appearances during the playoffs. He allowed only one earned run in his 8 1/3 innings pitched, and he made three scoreless appearances in the World Series against the Dodgers.

The 34-year-old sinkerballer, whose submarine arm slot is the lowest for any left-handed pitcher in the Major Leagues, has been a highly effective ground-ball specialist. Hill’s 68% ground-ball rate induced in 2024 was the highest in MLB among the 194 pitchers with 200-plus batted balls allowed.

Over seven big league seasons, Hill has a 3.99 ERA and 239 strikeouts in 322 1/3 innings pitched.
