The Boston Red Sox had a rather disappointing season in 2024 and sadly, in the process, lost a pair of their starting pitchers, Garrett Whitlock and Lucas Giolito, to season-ending surgery.
Ironically, both pitchers suffered the same injury, a second bout with ulnar collateral ligament damage in their throwing arm. Both underwent an internal brace procedure to repair it.
This surgery is known to have a shorter time of recovery than a Tommy John procedure, and this could prove to be true by both Whitlock and Giolito.
In a recent report by MLB.com’s Ian Brown, Whitlock said he expects to have a “regular” Spring Training.
This comes after nine months of his season-ending surgery.

Whitlock will be coming out of the bullpen in Spring Training, as Garrett Crochet, Walker Buehler, and Patrick Sandoval will be starting.
