Four-time MLB All-Star Juan Soto signed a historic 15 year, $765 million contract with the New York Mets this offseason. Spending one season with the New York Yankees, Soto helped lead the iconic American League franchise to its 41st World Series appearance.
A 2024 American League All-Star, Soto finished third in MVP voting behind Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and his now ex-teammate Aaron Judge, who won the award unanimously. Owning a career 160 OPS+ that ranks third among active players, Soto is one of MLB’s very best hitters.
While Soto is no longer a Yankee, the 26-year-old slugger appears to still have a connection with at least one of his former teammates.

On Tuesday, Soto made an Instagram comment under a post from Yankees relief pitcher Luke Weaver. Reacting to a video of Weaver’s offseason bullpen work, Soto kept his message to one word.
“Unicorn,” Soto commented.
Selected off waivers by New York from the Seattle Mariners in 2023, Weaver developed into a star reliever for the reigning American League champions. In 62 games for the Yankees last season, Weaver posted a 2.89 ERA, striking out 103 batters in 84 innings pitched.
Relied upon heavily by the Yankees in their 2024 postseason run, Weaver made 12 appearances in October, posting a 1.76 ERA in 15.1 innings pitched. Weaver also recorded four saves, which led the 2024 MLB playoffs.
The Yankees exercised Weaver’s 2025 club option for $2.5 million. The 31-year-old reliever will enter unrestricted free agency after this season.
