Cowboys' Tony Romo Should Be Hired As Coach, Per Dez Bryant

FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys have a coach. It’s over. It’s done.

But talking about who should’ve gotten the job instead of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones did in elevating offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer up to the big chair?

That might never end. …

Which, by the way, is fine with Jones.

Schottenheimer has the endorsement of plenty of people inside the building, starting with locker-room leader Dak Prescott.

Oh, and legendary Dallas boss Jimmy Johnson has also spoken highly of “Schotty” as “an outstanding football coach.”

Meanwhile, other people through their support elsewhere, with Deion Sanders being a favorite name for everybody from Nick Saban to Troy Aikman to Michael Irvin to Darren Woodson, who this week trashed Jones for overseeing a “culture” that isn’t truly serious about winning.

And then, when it comes to replacing the departed Mike McCarthy, there is the always colorfully-opinionated Dez Bryant.

Ahead of Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, the former Cowboys wide receiver popped onto the “Maggie and Perloff Show.” … and he conjured up another name. …

His former teammate, Tony Romo.

“I need to see him coaching,” Bryant said. “He should be the coach of the Dallas Cowboys, if anybody. At least the offensive coordinator.”

Maggie Gray then asked, “Tony Romo should be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys?”

Bryant replied, “Yep, at least the offensive coordinator, one of them. He’s a smart guy.”

Romo retired from the NFL in 2017 and has become a superstar in the CBS broadcast booth.

Dez noted that, but said what he hears from Tony on TV is just like he used to hear at practice … and how that would translate well into coaching.

“When I listen to Romo, that was Romo in practice,” Bryant said. “Very intelligent when it came to the game of football. I know you guys can see that when he’s broadcasting the game.”

Over the years, Romo has mentioned that becoming a coach is something he can envision … but he often notes that he’d do it only after his three young sons are grown.

“I’m sure one day I’ll coach,” Romo, … has said. “Right now, I’m happy with where I’m at. I’m enjoying it.”

Little wonder. Factually, Romo is said to earn approximately $20 million per year in his present line of work … with all the pressures that come with that but also a sort of part-time setup that allows him to be a husband and a dad and a very, very active golfer.

So Dez’s dream might come true. Someday. … especially because the Jones family’s favorite all-time player, quite literally, is Romo. So there could be a match.

But no time soon, we don’t think.
