The Miami Dolphins’ 2024 season epitomized the notion that it takes more than mere talent to win at a high level in the NFL.
Miami employs no shortage of talented players, yet the Dolphins missed out on the playoffs for the first time since head coach Mike McDaniel took over the reins.
Dolphins tackle Terron Armstead admitted that the team has the talent necessary to win but needs “more of an edge” and “total buy-in.”
He added some other thoughts. While he may think the Dolphins have enough talent to win, he also seems to believe that the team should be looking to add some pieces for “competition” and “retooling” purposes.
It makes more sense for Armstead to weigh in on exactly what’s wrong with the Dolphins than some of the other players on the team because of how long he’s played in Miami. Armstead has been a member of the Dolphins organization for the last three seasons now and has seen the squad go through plenty of ups and downs in that time.
While Armstead isn’t exactly begging the team to make a huge splash, one player who would perhaps give the Dolphins an edge is Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett. Garrett has requested a trade out of Cleveland and is a relentless defensive player.
Garrett was one of the few bright spots during the 2024 season for a Browns defense that was among the worst in the league. He led all players in the league in tackles for loss with 22 and accumulated a whopping 14 sacks in his eighth season in Cleveland.
The 29-year-old would also bring some playoff experience to the table for a Dolphins team that has been haunted by playoff demons in recent years. He’s played in three playoff games and has a playoff win under his belt, while the Dolphins have zero playoff victories since McDaniel took over the head-coaching role.
It’s been decades, in fact, since Miami’s last postseason victory, something the franchise is looking to change as soon as possible.
