It is Super Bowl week, but the Dallas Cowboys are still one of the main headlines and this time is has to do with star defensive player Micah Parsons.

With Micah in line for a new contract this offseason, attention has turned to when and if the Cowboys will get down to business.

Parsons has repeatedly stated that he wants his new deal done as soon as possible, and owner Jerry Jones has stated that he has every intention of keeping Parsons as a Cowboy.

But now comes NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero who wrote that there are conversations going on regarding the possibility of maybe trading No. 11.

Right, there’s a bit to work through here.

Micah wants a new contract, and he doesn’t want it to hold up Dallas’ offseason business. He’s stated that publicly, so the ball is in Dallas’ court on that one.

But with this trade talk, given how the Dallas community is still coming to terms with the Luka Doncic trade and the massive fallout from that, could you imagine if the Cowboys traded Parsons? One could argue the team’s best player, about to enter his prime and is considered one of the best defenders in the NFL.

The trade package would be huge, and likely two first-round picks as a starting point.

Once again, Dallas’ offseason may be distracted by this issue, but there is one simple and perfectly clear way to end it:

Extend Micah.

And do it now.

The Cowboys aren’t generally known for extending players early (Trevon Diggs the exception), and based on Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb’s deals, both of which dragged on far longer than they needed to, the same can’t happen with Micah.

Because the longer he goes unsigned, the louder these “trade” rumors will get.

Of course, they keep Dallas “above the fold,” and Jerry likes to have his Cowboys in the headlines. But this one can be ended before it really picks up steam…unless there really is a thought to trade away Dallas’ generational talent.

They say where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and if Jerry wants to put this out, he will.
