The Miami Dolphins and Tyreek Hill have had a rocky marriage over the last month. One that has spurred lots of rumors about a possible split between the sides. One that’s even had Hill wondering if he made the right choice wanting to leave Kansas City.
However, according to one NFL insider, that’s not happening – at least at this time.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Dolphins do not plan to trade their superstar receiver.
“They do not plan to trade their star wide receiver Tyreek Hill despite, let’s call it an uncomfortable ending to last season where he pulled himself out of the season finale and then said that I am done in Miami. The sides have spoken since. We heard Tyreek Hill making the rounds on radio row this week saying now I want to be in Miami. It’s early. It’s always possible somebody makes the type of offer they can’t refuse. But I think right now everything is tracking towards the Cheetah staying in South Beach.”
As Pelissero noted, while the Dolphins aren’t planning on doing anything at this point, who knows if things could change down the road if an offer is made. Anything is possible, and Hill can still command a big return.
However, given where the Dolphins are at right now, particularly how general manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel are seemingly under the gun going into 2025, it doesn’t seem like a move that a front office and head coach in those positions would be willing to make.
The Dolphins committed huge money to Tua Tagovailoa last offseason to win now. Kicking the can down the road a couple of years on at least a semi-rebuild – which would be what the Dolphins would be doing by parting with their best player – doesn’t fit that time frame. Besides, Hill fits the type of player that McDaniel wants to utilize in his system – cat-like agility and lightning speed.
While not impossible, it would be a surprise not to see the Cheetah on the field at Hard Rock Stadium when the 2025 season begins.
