As Travis Kelce walked off the field and out of Caesars Superdome following the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, many wondered if that would be the final time.
The tight end will reportedly take time this offseason to consider his future.
While Kelce declined to speak to reporters following the loss, Mahomes spoke candidly. And he was asked about Kelce’s future.
“I’ll let Travis make that decision on his own, man. He’s given so much to this team and to the NFL and been such a joy, not only for me to work with but for people to watch,” Mahomes said. “He knows he still has a lot of football left in him. You can see it
“He’s done enough to be a gold jacket guy and a first-ballot Hall of Famer,” the Chiefs quarterback added. “He’ll get to spend some time with his family and make that decision on his own.”
Kelce has experimented with the acting world this past year, so he will have a career outside of football if he decides to move on. However, earlier this week, he showed everyone that his heart is still with Kansas City.
“For the most part, I’m planning on being a Kansas City Chief and playing football,” he said when addressing his future.
But, after a tough loss like this, anything can happen.
Kelce is a true leader, proving day in and day out that he is a vital piece of the franchise. Hopefully he decides to come back, because this team will not be the same when he retires.
