Pitchers and catchers reported for MLB spring training on Monday, and Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani was in attendance in Glendale, Arizona, gearing up to make his highly anticipated return to the mound this season.
While Ohtani had a stellar season at the plate last year—hitting .310 with 197 hits, 54 home runs, and 130 RBIs—he did so while rehabbing from UCL surgery, which kept him sidelined from pitching. This is a facet of his game many consider among his best since he entered the MLB in 2018 with the Los Angeles Angels.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts highlighted that Ohtani will likely return to the mound in May, but added that it could happen even earlier, potentially during the Tokyo Series in March.
On day one of spring training, Ohtani was already turning heads with impressive footage showcasing his skills both as a pitcher and a hitter, shared by the Dodgers.
“Pitcher and designated hitter, Shohei Ohtani.” Dodgers posted.
The clips quickly garnered reactions from both Dodgers and MLB fans, who are eager to see the 30-year-old back on the diamond with a loaded Dodgers roster aiming for a second consecutive championship.
“The league is actually cooked LMFAOOOO.” One fan said.
“Seeing him pitch in a Dodgers uniform is going to be a dream come true.” Another fan posted.
Another fan commented, “STUD!!! MVP 2025! Go Dodgers.”
“The best baseball player in the planet.” One more fan said.
Ohtani possesses the rare ability to both pitch and hit at the highest level in baseball. Over his seven seasons in the league, even without pitching last year, he has maintained an impressive 3.01 ERA, 15.1 WAR, 1.082 WHIP, and holds a 38-19 record in 86 career games. Having thrown 481.2 innings, he’s now poised to make his highly anticipated Dodgers pitching debut in the coming months after a year-long hiatus.
