The 2024 NFL season has come to a close following Super Bowl 59 — a game which ended 40-22 in favor of the Philadelphia Eagles, ending the Kansas City Chiefs’ pursuit of a third-straight win in the big game.
Just before the Super Bowl, the NFL Honors took place and awards were handed out to their respective winners. One of the most controversial awards was the MVP — which happened to be a tossup between Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
Evidently, Jackson wasn’t able to capture the hat trick with a third MVP victory and, instead, the Bills superstar took home the award for the first time in his career.
No matter which way the vote would have when, in favor of Jackson or Allen, there was going to be an upset party, wishing or thinking the vote should have swung in a different direction.
Many pundits and analysts have gone to bat for Jackson after he led the Ravens to a 12-5 season — though none have as much as his Baltimore teammates.
Ravens superstar running back Derrick Henry recently spoke out in favor of Jackson during an appearance on Micah Parson’s podcast, “The Edge.”
“Of course I’m going to be a little biased toward Lamar because he’s my teammate,” Henry said. “I just thought it was a no-brainer that he should’ve won. 41 touchdowns, four interceptions, almost 1,000 [rushing] yards.”
It’s not a shock Henry was going to support his teammate and claim he deserved the MVP award — that’s what most teammates would do.
Rashod Bateman is another Ravens player who recently spoke out and made a statement regarding the MVP trophy.
Regardless, Jackson is focused on something more important than an award victory. The club fell short in the postseason once again, losing to the Bills in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
As a two-time MVP winner, Jackson wants to win the big game.
