After the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, the Kansas City Chiefs will immediately shift to offseason mode.

They don’t have any time to spare, given the number of key free agent decisions ahead and the NFL’s legal negotiating window, which begins exactly one month from Monday, Feb. 10. Some of the Chiefs’ top pending free agents, including starting MLB Nick Bolton, are already starting to think about their future with the team.

Bolton spoke with media members immediately following the loss and was asked about his free agency decision. His preference? He seems to still love Kansas City, Missouri, after becoming a man over a seven-year span from Mizzou to 1 Arrowhead Drive.

“I’m going to take this one, take the 24 or 48 hours, whatever, to reflect on how the year went, talk to my agent,” Bolton said. “But I’ve been here (in Missouri) for seven years it feels like home. Welcomed me with open arms as a little 18-year-old with short hair, no facial hair. Let me go through growing pains and find out my own identity, and it feels like home.”

That certainly doesn’t sound like someone intent on leaving Kansas City. Ultimately, it’ll depend on the Chiefs’ finances and whether Bolton seeks to become one of the highest-paid linebackers in the league.

If Super Bowl LIX turns out to be Bolton’s last game in Kansas City, the former second-round pick will finish his four-year career as a two-time Super Bowl champion. He recorded 458 total tackles, 32 tackles for loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, one fumble recovery TD, 15 passes defended, and four interceptions during the regular season. His play in the postseason was just as dominant, with 102 total tackles, five tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, one fumble recovery TD, and two passes defended.
