BREAKING: Red Sox Rumors Heat Up with New Update on Nolan Arenado After Alex Bregman Deal!

Areport Wednesday morning claimed the Red Sox were “engaged in discussions” about a potential trade for a veteran third baseman.

But later that day, Boston reportedly brought in a different star player on the hot corner.

After reported conversations with the St. Louis Cardinals about Nolan Arenado, Craig Breslow and company tacked on another big offseason move by landing Alex Bregman. Not only did the Red Sox add the impactful right-handed bat they’d needed, but they did so without issuing the very long-term deal Bregman initially coveted.

Arenado now almost certainly will not end up in Boston, which might be to his chagrin since he reportedly was “highly, highly motivated” to call Fenway Park home. The eight-time All-Star’s future remains uncertain, but ESPN’s Buster Olney shared a note on Arenado after Bregman reportedly committed to Boston.

“Nolan Arenado moves to the forefront in the third base market, now that Bregman is off the board,” Olney posted X on Thursday morning. “The Yankees have not been engaged in conversations with the Cardinals about him.”

Perhaps the teams that came up short in the Bregman sweepstakes will look into possibly trading for Arenado. The Detroit Tigers and the Chicago Cubs reportedly both presented offers to the two-time World Series champion, only to watch him reunite with Alex Cora.

The phone lines in St. Louis couldn’t be more open, too, as Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak on Wednesday acknowledged the club was “still looking” for an Arenado trade partner.
