Dallas Cowboys pass-rushing linebacker Micah Parsons has repeatedly stated his desire to sign a new contract as soon as possible.
With Micah in line for what could be a new market-setting deal with the Cowboys, which could be around $40 million APY, there is a desire to wrap it up so Dallas can then attack free agency with the leftover salary cap that would come from a Parsons extension.
But as we know, Jerry and Stephen Jones are known for dragging their feet with contracts. Look at Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb last offseason. Micah doesn’t want that, and he’s publicly stated as such.
Are things moving in the right direction, though?
“I really have a lot of respect for Jerry,” Parsons said via dallascowboys.com. “We have great conversations all the time. There’s definitely a plan in place, but we’ll just see how everything plays out. There’s been no progress yet, but I’m pretty confident that something will happen, so we’ll see.”
“No progress” might disappoint some observers.
But “there’s definitely a plan in place” does register as a positive.”
For Cowboys Nation, that “plan” better involve getting Micah to sign on the dotted line as soon as possible.
Given the state of the roster and the holes that need to be plugged both in free agency and the draft, Dallas can’t afford to wait as it did a year ago with Dak and CeeDee.
For some, Parsons is putting the “heat” on the front office to come to the negotiating table to thrash out a deal, and he isn’t even gunning to be the highest-paid non-quarterback in football, either.
Micah wants to remain a Cowboy and Jerry has stated he wants Parsons to stay; now the time has come to get a contract sorted.
And part of the contract “plan” should be getting it done as soon as possible.
