Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons is close to signing a new contract to keep him in Arlington for the foreseeable future.

Micah Parsons remains confident about a contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys. The All-Pro pass rusher has been the backbone of the Dallas team, and it would be foolish to part ways when they require experienced and quality players in the locker room.
During a recent dialogue with Patrick Walker of the Dallas Cowboys.com, Parsons revealed speaking with owner Jerry Jones. The pair chatted about his future contract, adding that there’s a plan in place but nothing concrete yet.
It’s good, you know? It was good. I really have a lot of respect for Jerry [Jones]. We have great conversations all the time. There’s definitely a plan in place, but we’ll just see how everything plays out. There’s been no progress yet, but I’m pretty confident that something will happen, so we’ll see.

According to reports, Parsons, who earned just below $10 million as a base salary during the 2024 season through his rookie contract, is bound to see a massive increase. Heavy.com reported the former first-rounder has a ceiling of five years of $200 million ($40 million a year).
The Cowboys must move away from their previous policy of leaving it late to extend player contracts and paying the price for it. Parsons is one player they need to keep around, but at the same time, he wants the Cowboys to add quality players around him.
I don’t want to sit back and watch other [teams] build and build and us stay the same. Definitely some call to action. I want to see us become aggressive and get some players that will come in and make an impact.

Parsons has openly asked the Cowboys to trade for 2023 NFL defensive player of the year Myles Garrett as well as re-sign defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa. With Dak Prescott ($60 million per year) and CeeDee Lamb ($34 million per year) occupying the majority of the cap space, Jones will find it hard to honor Parsons’ request.
Former Cowboy wants Dallas to trade Micah Parsons
There’s always the possibility of moving on from Parsons. It will anger the Cowboys fan base but will allow Jones to diversify his resources better by making cheap signings.
One former Cowboy is all in on Jones not extending Parsons’ contract and trading him away from some good picks. On Wednesday, former Cowboys defensive lineman Chris Canty praised Parsons for being one of the best players in his position on ESPN’s Unsportsmanlike but also criticized the 25-year-old’s immature behavior off the field.
The Dallas Cowboys need to trade Micah Parsons. They have to, at some point, start taking culture seriously… When you got somebody [who] has gotten himself in trouble with his podcast, saying certain things about his teammates, about the league… There’s an opportunity for the Dallas Cowboys this offseason to show the rest of that locker room that our culture here matters.

If the Cowboys do listen to Canty and trade Parsons, then they will be losing someone who recorded 43 combined tackles and 12 sacks in just 13 games in 2024. Parsons is a 2x First Team All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler, finishing in the top 5 for DPOY on multiple occasions.
