The Miami Dolphins announced three roster moves Friday afternoon, starting to make the cuts needed to bring their 2025 NFL salary cap in order. Reported earlier in the day, the announced moves included the release of running back Raheem Mostert. Added to that move was the release of cornerback Kendall Fuller and tight end Durham Smythe.

Before the moves, Miami was estimated to be around $12 million over the 2025 salary cap. While the cap has not been officially set for next season, the Dolphins have until the new league year begins on March 12 to create the necessary space to meet the limit and provide any space they need for free agent and draft pick signing. Mostert was set to account for $3.9 million against the 2025 cap, while Fuller was scheduled to cost $8.2 million and Smythe would have been $4.8 million.

Releasing Mostert provided $2.9 million in cap relief, while Fuller provides $2.8 million and Smythe added $2.1 million.

Fuller was in his first season with Miami. He played in 11 games, all starts, before a knee injury shortened his season. He recorded 50 tackles, seven passes defensed, and a fumble return this season. Fuller initially entered the NFL in 2016 as a third-round pick of the Washington Commanders. He also played for the Kansas City Chiefs during his career.

Smythe was Miami’s longest-tenured played, joining the team as a fourth-round pick in the 2018 Draft. The veteran saw his playing time with the Dolphins curtailed this year as free-agent acquisition Jonnu Smith moved into the top tight end role. Smythe appeared in all 17 games in 2024, starting four times, with nine receptions for 53 yards.

Combined the three moves bring Miami to around $4.2 million over the cap.
