Novak Djokovic is preparing for his third ATP tournament of the season in Doha. The two-time champion will compete at this event for the first time since 2019, seeking his elusive 100th ATP title. Novak left a hamstring injury behind, recovering and training without issues.
While focusing on his first rival, Matteo Berrettini, Djokovic also confirmed his next tournaments. The veteran will compete in Indian Wells and Miami in March, with Andy Murray likely sitting in his coaching box. At 37, the Serb picks his schedule wisely and avoids making long-term plans.
However, we should see him at the first Masters 1000 events where he dominated in the past. Novak will seek a deep run in Indian Wells following last year’s early exit to Luca Nardi. We should also see him at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami for the first time.
The 24-time Major winner claimed an elusive Olympic Games gold medal in Paris last August. It was his ultimate goal in 2024, and nothing else could keep him motivated by the end of the season. Djokovic closed it in October and enjoyed with his family.
Novak started the 2025 campaign in Brisbane, falling to an inspired Reilly Opelka. The ten-time Australian Open champion reached the quarter-final in Melbourne following fine wins over Tomas Machac and Jiri Lehecka.
Djokovic faced world no. 3 Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-final and prevailed in four sets after nearly three hours and 40 minutes. However, the veteran experienced a setback already in the first set, struggling with pain in his left leg.
Novak took a medical timeout and recovered when the medication started to work. He emerged at the top but paid the price. The legend revealed a hamstring injury and missed two days of training ahead of the semi-final.
Djokovic did everything to recover for the clash against Alexander Zverev, which turned into a mission impossible! The veteran fought well in the opening set, but he lost it in the tie break after 80 minutes and retired due to increased pain in his troubled leg.
The Serb skipped the Davis Cup action in Denmark and worked on his recovery. Novak healed the injury and trained in Belgrade before traveling to Doha. The two-time champion will start the campaign against Matteo Berrettini.
He could face Carlos Alcaraz in a blockbuster semi-final.
