The Boston Red Sox continued to be active this offseason by announcing they have added outfielder Trayce Thompson, brother of NBA star Klay Thompson, to their Spring Training roster as a non-roster invite.
He will join a list of 20 other players who have been extended non-roster invites to Boston’s Spring Training facility in Fort Myers, Florida.
This marks Thompson’s sixth MLB organization he’s been a part of, and most notably, he did two stints with the Los Angeles Dodgers. His two best seasons were with the Dodgers in 2016 and 2022, where he hit 13 home runs in each season.

His best career moment came on April 1, 2023, when he clubbed three home runs against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 935 career at-bats, Thompson has 45 home runs and 126 runs batted in.
33-year-old Thompson is unlikely to make Boston’s Opening Day roster, but if he performs well in Spring Training, he will get an opportunity to get a lot of at-bats for Boston’s AAA affiliate Worcester, and if Boston is riddled with injuries, he could see some playing time. His brother, Klay, is a 12-year NBA veteran, winning four NBA Championships.
What held him back in 2023 with the Dodgers and Chicago White Sox was his 77 strikeouts in 153 at-bats.
