“BREAKING: Red Sox Emerge as Early Favorites in $427M Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Sweepstakes!”

The Toronto Blue Jays failed to agree to a contract extension with their superstar first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. before the offseason deadline.

With Guerrero becoming a free agent at the end of the 2025 season, the baseball world has already begun looking at where he might land when he signs his monumental contract.

Christopher Kline of FanSided recently listed the Boston Red Sox as the early favorites in the Guerrero sweepstakes. Spotrac projects his deal to be for 12 years and $427 million, but given the market set by Juan Soto, he may land $500 million.

“If Guerrero still harbors a secret hatred for the Yankees, there isn’t a better club to play for than Boston. That ballpark is also perfectly engineered to Guerrero’s swing,” Kline wrote. “He has a career 1.060 OPS at Fenway, with 10 home runs and 44 RBI across 45 games. Bregman has experienced a similarly transcendent output when playing in Boston. If the Red Sox stack a couple elite right-handed bats to complement their barrage of hard-hitting lefties, the AL looks awfully winnable.

“So, the Red Sox are real favorites here. Maybe this all looks silly when Steve Cohen lines up $800 million and a lifetime luxury suite at Citi Field, but if the Red Sox put up the necessary capital, there’s reason to believe Guerrero will head on over to Beantown.”

The Red Sox reportedly had an offer for Soto worth around $700 million on the table. If they’re serious about winning, they could pony up $500 million to bring Guerrero in next offseason.

There’s even a chance the Red Sox ship away a haul of prospects to acquire Guerrero from the Blue Jays in a blockbuster trade before the 2025 MLB trade deadline.
