Novak Djokovic faces a number of difficulties in the latter part of his legendary career. The Serbian legend has shown that he is still competitive in Grand Slam tournaments, in which his motivations is really high and in which he is willing to give his best, as he demonstrated at the 2025 Australian Open.
Despite a left thigh injury suffered at Melbourne Park, the former world No.1 continued to compete against Carlos Alcaraz and achieved a truly titanic feat in the quarterfinals against a player much younger than him.
However – unlike in the past – the 37-year-old from Belgrade struggles to maintain the same level throughout the season and the number of his injuries has increased in recent times.
In 2024, Nole had to undergo knee surgery due to an injury suffered at Roland Garros and also had some shoulder problems in the latter part of the season.
Finally, the injury to his left thigh prevented him from going even further in the first Grand Slam of the new season.
Djokovic’s new reality
Novak – who was eliminated by Matteo Berrettini in the first round at the Doha ATP 500 – is fully aware that his body no longer responds as before and that he must accept a new reality.
“There are more injuries. Things are not the same as 10 years ago, 15 years ago. I still try to take care of my body on a daily basis, and it’s more challenging now, no doubt. I still try to do my very best, given the circumstances” – Djokovic explained after his loss against Berrettini.
Nole’s next tournament will be the Indian Wells Masters 1000, in which he will again have Andy Murray by his side.
Their collaboration is set to continue in the coming months, although the Serbian has never specified exactly for when.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion got on very well with the Scot in Australia and their partnership allowed him to overcome the most difficult moments.
