Novak Djokovic has become one of the best athletes of all time not only because of his immense talent, which has often been underestimated, but also because he has had the ability to improve obsessively from all points of view.
The former world number 1 has had a maniacal attitude at all stages of his career, from taking care of his body to training without forgetting nutrition.
At almost 38 years old, the Serbian legend is still competitive at the highest level although he is no longer in his ‘prime’. The Belgrade ace has more injuries than in the past and struggles to play his best tennis throughout the season, but in the most important events on the calendar – the Slams – he is still very dangerous, as he showed during the 2025 Australian Open (where he defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals).
The 37-year-old Serbian dreams of winning the 25th Major title of his glorious career in 2025 and he didn’t go that far from that goal at Melbourne Park earlier this year, but a left thigh injury prevented him from continuing his run.
His next big goal will be Roland Garros, but perhaps Wimbledon is the Major tournament in which he has the best chance of lifting the trophy.
Djokovic’s nickname
In a long interview with ‘Sky Sport Italy’, fitness coach Marco Panichi – who worked with Nole for many years and who is now in Jannik Sinner’s team – revealed a particular nickname that had been given to the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
“We called him ‘Mister Why’, because when we asked him to do something he always asked why he had to do it” – said Panichi.
“From a very young age, you could see that his mentality was different from that of other players.
As the years went by, he became more and more talented because he has the ability to be maniacal in certain aspects.
I know this very well having worked with him for seven years.
He has worked aspects that the other players are not even aware of” – he added.
