Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce took almost three weeks to announce his decision on the 2025 season.
He was thinking about retiring but put that off for at least one more year and will play for the Chiefs again in 2025. He wants to help them win another Super Bowl after they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on February 9.
Kelce officially announced his return during Thursday’s edition of the “Pat McAfee Show” even though fans knew he was coming back earlier in the week.
“I’m coming back for sure,” Kelce texted McAfee. “Gonna try and get to the best shape I’ve been this offseason and get back to the mountain top. Got a real bad taste in my mouth with how I played in that last game and how I got the guys ready for battle. I can’t go out like that!!!!”
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was pumped up when he heard the news.
The two will try and run it back to win their fourth Super Bowl of their careers.
The Chiefs were trying to win their third straight Super Bowl when the Eagles crushed them by 18, 40-22. They jumped out to a 24-0 lead in the first half and never looked back.
Mahomes had his worst performance of the season, while Kelce also didn’t make much of an impact, finishing with four receptions for 39 yards and no touchdowns.
They’ll try to put that game behind them heading into the 2025 season. The Chiefs are still the team to beat in the AFC since they have been to three straight Super Bowls and five of the last six.
They may be a bit busy this offseason as they try to shore up some depth at certain positions, including wide receiver.
