The Miami Dolphins enter the young offseason without much wiggle room against the NFL salary cap.

Even after Terron Armstead agreed to a restructured contract, the Dolphins are currently projected to be roughly $5.2 million under the salary cap, according to Spotrac. That’s not a whole lot of money to work with compared to the amount of star talent hitting the market.

Arguably the biggest name set to hit the market from Miami is safety Jevon Holland, who has turned into one of the young studs at his position.

In the latest NFL free agency predictions from Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News, Holland opts for a bigger contract with the Minnesota Vikings.

“The Dolphins seem prepared to lose their upfield playmaker, and the Vikings could use his extra support against the run under his former coordinator in Miami, Brian Flores,” Iyer wrote.

The 25-year-old is currently projected to land a four-year, $60.2 million contract in free agency, per Spotrac.

After he was selected in the second round by Miami during the 2021 NFL Draft, Holland wasted no time emerging onto the scene. The Oregon product has started 57 of a possible 68 games.

A versatile asset who can line up at all three levels of the defense, Holland thrived as a free safety under Flores during his rookie season. He allowed a career-best 88.6 passer rating on 22 targets, according to Pro Football Focus.

Replacing Holland would not be an easy task for the Dolphins but given their limitations with the salary cap, the young safety could be on his way out this offseason.
