Jerry Jones usually talks with media members every NFL Scouting Combine in a meeting dubbed “On the Bus.”
But not this year.
CowboysCountry.com insider Mike Fisher reports the marketing-minded boss has visits with players’ agents scheduled – which is normal. … but that there is something abnormal being added to the Indy scene …
No media session.
Fish reports that Jerry’s agenda includes conversations with agents for defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa (with a deal deemed “very close” according to our sources), edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence, running back Rico Dowdle, defensive backs Jourdan Lewis and Israel Mukuamu and linebacker Nick Vigil.
All of the above mentioned are free agents this offseason.
While CowboysCountry.com has already stated reasons why Jones and the front office have not met with targets in the draft, like highly touted running back Ashton Jeanty, this news comes as a notable call.
Does this mark some sort of sea change in the way Jerry and Stephen Jones want to conduct their business, or how they want to be thought of when it comes to being an “unserious” franchise?
We’re not ready to go that far. But …
Amidst all the drama already stirred up by Jones and the Cowboys circus this offseason – from hiring processes to free agency rumors and draft speculation – add Jerry’s surprising silence to the list.
Because he’s busy.
As Fish puts, “You know. Like a GM is supposed to do stuff.”
