This month has been incredibly challenging for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his family – on and off the field.

Just a few weeks ago, Mahomes played arguably the worst game of his career in Super Bowl 59 against the Philadelphia Eagles. He had three turnovers in the team’s 40-22 loss, which included a brutal pick-six in the second quarter.

Shortly after the Chiefs’ loss in Super Bowl 59, Mahomes’ grandfather passed away. His mother, Randi, announced the heartbreaking news on social media.

“Hard to find the words of holding my fathers hand as he goes to Heaven. I know he’s in a better place. I love you daddy. Well done, good and faithful servant,” Randi Mahomes wrote on Instagram.

Mahomes’ grandfather was placed in hospice care before the AFC Championship Game. He was apparently “hanging on” so he can watch Patrick play in the Super Bowl.

“I know that it has meant a lot to him,” Randi said. “And I think he’s hanging on because he wants to see his grandson do an amazing thing or just let him play. I mean, he must be such a proud grandpa, so proud.”

Judging by Randi’s latest Instagram post, her family is slowly but surely healing.

Randi shared a picture of her smiling with her children. Her post on Instagram included a heart emoji.

“Continued prayers for you all and the entire Martin family,” one person said.

“May God bless you and your family always,” another person commented.

Patrick Mahomes has not yet commented on his grandfather’s death. He’s most likely trying to keep his family matters private.

In a few months from now, Mahomes will be back at the Chiefs’ facility doing what he loves. For now, he’s going to spend his time off with his loved ones.
