Former Dallas Cowboys head coach and NFL studio analyst Jimmy Johnson announced his retirement Monday after 25 years at the network, sharing his decision on ‘The Herd’ with Colin Cowherd.
Afterward, Johnson became the talk of the sports world as fans reminisced about his legendary career as a coach and, perhaps more famously, a broadcaster.
His longtime employer FOX Sports shared a message on X with four pictures of Johnson plus a photo of his Hall of Fame bust in Canton, Ohio at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which the former Cowboys coach was inducted into back in 2020.
“Thank you, coach,” the NFL on FOX wrote on Monday, drawing a rare response from the former Dallas coach on X.
“NO! Thank you, FOX!” the complementary former coach Johnson said after seeing the message.
Johnson made the College Football Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Dallas Cowboys Cowboys Ring of Honor in 2023 along with his 2020 HOF induction.
He won two Super Bowls with the Cowboys and one national championship in college with the Miami Hurricanes, cementing his place as one of the most successful and admired coaches in recent football history.
Johnson enjoyed a legendary run as a FOX Sports as a studio host alongside familiar partners Curt Menafee, James Brown, Howie Long, Terry Bradshaw and others.
