FRISCO – Free agency hasn’t even started yet and already the Dallas Cowboys are making good on their promise to be “selectively aggressive.”

From contracts big – Osa Odighizuwa – and small – Tyrus Wheat – the Cowboys are attempting to shore up a defensive front that last season became a series of laughable turnstiles as one of the NFL’s worst rushing units. Decisions must still be made on the likes of Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, Chauncey Golston and Carl Lawson.

Assuming some of those get new contracts – added with the healthy return of Sam Williams – and suddenly new coordinator Matt Eberflus is in position to take a big step forward in 2025.

But what if Jerry Jones wants to parlay this year’s “selectively aggressive” with last year’s “all in”? Could a free agent with a marquee name and a sale-rack price tag fit into the Cowboys’ game plan?

Joey Bosa, Dallas Cowboy?

This week the Los Angeles Chargers cut Bosa as a cap casualty, saving them almost $25 million. He’s a five-time Pro Bowl edge rusher and he’s actually only 29, which makes him four years younger than Lawrence.

Like the Cowboys’ veteran, Bosa’s dominance has fizzled because of various injuries. Over the last three seasons he’s played only 28 games and recorded just 14 sacks. He  hasn’t had 10+ sacks in a season since 2021.

The Cowboys have been finagling room under the cap all week with contract maneuverings with CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott. It’s unlikely they will spend a chunk of that change on a declining player such as Bosa.

There are rumors of interest that the San Francisco 49ers want to sign him to pair with brother, Nick.

“It’d be cool at some point,” Joey said of potentially playing with his brother. “I always thought of myself being somebody that will play for the Chargers and retire here, which I think not many people do on one team, and I think it would be a cool thing to accomplish, but you never know.”
