The sun has set but the NFL free agency moves continue to roll in on Monday evening.

Enter the Miami Dolphins, who are turning to a pair of former Chicago Bears in their quest to upgrade their offensive line. NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero has the details on old friends Larry Borom and James Daniels taking their talents to South Beach:

Former Bears James Daniels and Larry Borom are becoming Dolphins

James Daniels played for the Bears from 2018-21 before leaving in free agency in March 2022 to sign a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Daniels, who played guard and center in Chicago, found a steadier home in Pittsburgh where he played 36 games in three seasons. Most of Daniels’ work with the Steelers came in the first two years, where he played 32 games at guard. But an injury in 2024 limited him to just four games in what turned out to be his final season with the Steelers. Now, Daniels is headed to the Dolphins where he’ll look to protect quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Joining Daniels in Miami will be Larry Borom, his former teammate in Chicago. Borom’s first year with the Bears turned out to be the last season Daniels played in Chicago. A fifth-round pick (151st overall) in 2021, Borom has spent the last four seasons with the Bears playing 47 games (making 27 starts). To his credit, Borom played everywhere but center. Perhaps that versatility is what led Miami to extend a contract offer Borom’s way.

Borom becomes the second member of the 2024 Bears to agree to a free agent deal elsewhere. Earlier, it was reported that defensive end Darrell Taylor was set to latch on with the Houston Texans on a one-year deal. And in other ex-Bears news, 2021 first-round pick Justin Fields has a deal lined up to quarterback the New York Jets next year. It’s nice to see old friends find new homes. Once a Bear, always a Bear — right?
