Dallas Cowboys general manager Jerry Jones declared that they will not be aggressive in the free agency even though they need several positions to be filled with quality players.

Whenever Jerry Jones opens his mouth to give a statement, one can bet there’s bound to be some fireworks. The veteran general manager of the Dallas Cowboys has very little to no filter when talking about the business side of things, and he didn’t disappoint during his recent chit-chat about free agency.
Now if any Cowboys fan was hoping to see Jerry splashing the cash in the free agency after restructuring Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb’s contracts, then they are absolutely wrong. As a matter of fact, Jones is of the opinion that the Cowboys don’t need much from the free agency.
Jones, while speaking to the media, revealed that the Cowboys will be “selectively aggressive” in free agency this year, which is sure to raise a few eyebrows among the Cowboys fans who wanted something positive after their team finished 7-10 last year.
I am not looking at free agency as a place to fill voids.

This is actually the opposite of what his son, the COO of the Dallas Cowboys, Stephen Jones, said last month via the Dallas Morning News.
I think there’s probably a good chance of that. Between what we lost last year and what we have free this year, I think that’s part of it. Every year is its own year.

Even though Jones isn’t a fan of adding big names, he didn’t deny that the Cowboys will not target any like his father, who outright admitted that the Cowboys will refrain from being aggressive in the free agency.
Free agency is a treasure trove for Jerry Jones if he wants to fix the Cowboys
The Cowboys must address the run game, which they so conveniently patched last season with veteran legs but failed miserably. They struggled to run on both sides of the ball, ranking third in yards allowed per rush attempt and 30th in offensive rushing yards per attempt. Only undrafted free agent RB Rico Dowdle crossed 1000 yards on the ground for the Cowboys—his future is uncertain.
There’s a massive influx of quality running backs this year in free agency and in the NFL draft. The Cowboys received additional cap space after future Hall of Famer Zack Martin announced his retirement from football, and veterans Brandin Cooks and DeMarcus Lawrence are set to depart in free agency.
The lack of a clear wide receiver 2 has plagued the Cowboys for a while. Lamb is the outright No. 1 with 1100 yards and six touchdowns this season in 2024.
Jerry Jones must do something to keep the Cowboys competitive in the NFC East. The Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl, and the Washington Commanders, with Jayden Daniels as their quarterback, pose a big threat. The Cowboys risk slipping to the third-best team in the division, which is not good enough for a side that hasn’t played an NFC title game for nearly thirty years.
