SHOCKING: Shohei Ohtani Wearing Gold Logo As Part Of Topps & MLB Partnership

Major League Baseball, Topps, Fanatics and Nike partnered to launch a new gold MLB logo patch program.

The six primary award winners from the 2024 MLB season are wearing gold MLB logo patches throughout the 2025 season. These game-worn patches will then be featured in unique autographed Logoman trading cards.

Shohei Ohtani, the unanimous 2024 National League MVP, was the first to debut the new gold logo patch as the Los Angeles Dodgers faced the Yomiuri Giants during an exhibition matchup as part of the Tokyo Series.

Ohtani is joined in wearing the patch by the American League MVP Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees, Cy Young Award winners Tarik Skubal (Detroit Tigers) and Chris Sale (Atlanta Braves) and Rookie of the Year winners Luis Gil (Yankees) and Paul Skenes (Pittsburgh Pirates).

The jerseys will be authenticated throughout the year and each player will have 10 of their gold MLB logos removed from their jersey and put into trading cards the following year. Fanatics and Topps did not announce the set they will be put into.

In addition to the trading card lineup, Fanatics will be selling retail versions of the Nike jerseys with the gold patches. The jersey options will include home, road, alternate and city connect styles.

The use of gold has become somewhat commonplace among MLB uniforms. Since 2005, each World Series champion has debuted special uniforms the following season that feature an element of gold to them.

The Dodgers are also likely to have a new uniform with gold accents or lettering to celebrate their 2024 World Series championship. In 2021, the Dodgers debuted their gold-accented jerseys on Opening Day.

Gold MLB logo patch joins rookie debut patch

MLB previously added the “MLB debut patch” to their lineup as ways to recognize players and later turn them into Topps cards.

The debut program began in 2023, with all players who make their MLB debut wearing the commemorative jersey patch.

After appearing in their first game, the patches are removed, secured and authenticated under the auspices of the MLB Authentication Program for inclusion in an upcoming Topps product.

Michael Busch became the first Dodgers player to wear the patch, and that list later expanded to include players such as Gavin Stone and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
