Chiefs Lose Key Super Bowl Contributor and Officially Wipe Out Entire 2018 Draft Class

Kansas City closes the book on a championship era as the last member of Veach’s first draft class departs.

The Kansas City Chiefs are moving on from one of the last remaining pieces of their early championship foundation. With defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi signing a one-year deal with the New York Jets, the Chiefs have now officially moved on from every player in their 2018 draft class—Brett Veach’s first as general manager.

Nnadi may not have been the most celebrated player on Kansas City’s roster, but his contributions were crucial to the team’s defensive success. Drafted in the third round out of Florida State, he became a reliable force in the middle of the defensive line for seven seasons. Over 115 career games, he totaled 233 tackles and five sacks, providing consistent run-stopping ability.

His presence helped solidify the Chiefs’ defense during three Super Bowl-winning seasons, clogging up rushing lanes and taking on double teams so the team’s pass rushers could thrive. One of his standout moments came in 2019 when he recorded his first career interception against the Chargers—an uncommon feat for a defensive tackle. That same year, he played a key role in the Chiefs’ first Super Bowl win under Patrick Mahomes, setting the tone for a championship-level defense.

Why the Chiefs Moved On

Despite his experience and contributions, Kansas City opted not to re-sign Nnadi as they continue reshaping their defense. With younger, more athletic linemen emerging in Steve Spagnuolo’s system, the team prioritized a fresh look in the trenches.

The decision marks a full transition away from the Chiefs’ 2018 draft class, which once seemed like a key part of the team’s long-term future. Over the years, players like Breeland Speaks, Dorian O’Daniel, and Armani Watts all exited, leaving Nnadi as the last remaining member. His departure now closes that chapter entirely.

While Kansas City moves forward, the Jets see Nnadi as a valuable addition to their defensive front. Following Javon Kinlaw’s departure to Washington, they needed an experienced interior lineman to complement Quinnen Williams.

A source within the Jets organization reportedly believes Nnadi can return to peak form and make a real impact. His reputation as a durable, reliable player who rarely misses games makes him a low-risk signing for a team looking to strengthen its defensive core.

With Nnadi’s exit, the Chiefs’ 2018 draft class is officially wiped from the roster. The group that once represented Veach’s first major attempt at building around Mahomes is now a thing of the past, a reminder of how quickly the NFL moves forward.

Though Kansas City continues to evolve, Nnadi’s contributions—especially during the team’s Super Bowl runs—won’t be forgotten. The Chiefs are moving in a new direction, but one of their most underrated defensive pieces is taking his winning mentality to New York, ready for his next chapter.
