Yankees Bring Back Clay Holmes Prediction in Wild MLB The Show 2025 Season Simulation

MLB The Show’s Yankees 2025 Projection is Filled with Twists, Trades, and Heartbreak.

The strangest prediction from MLB The Show 2025? The New York Yankees brought Clay Holmes back months after letting him walk in free agency. In a bizarre twist, the video game simulation had the Yankees dealing away two of their most significant offseason additions, Cody Bellinger and Devin Williams, only to reunite with Holmes and bring in Jeff McNeil, Adam Frazier, and two more relievers, David Bednar and Dennis Santana.

Yahoo Sports simulated the entire 2025 MLB season in MLB The Show, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s annual baseball video game. Using the game’s in-depth franchise mode, they ran the season with current live rosters, left computer trading on, and automatically handled all in-season events like the draft and All-Star break. No user input was used for game or roster management, meaning the simulation played out organically based on the game’s algorithms.

And let’s say our future computer overlords have some wild ideas about baseball.

The game predicted that the Yankees would steamroll through the postseason, sweeping the Mariners and Twins (because even in a make-believe scenario, the Twins can’t get past the Yankees) and then taking a 3-1 lead in the World Series against the Brewers.

And then the cruel twist: the Brewers rattled off three straight wins to steal the World Series championship, leaving the Bronx stunned.

A safer bet was the game’s projection of an MVP season for Aaron Judge.

The Yankees’ captain mashed 46 home runs, drove in 118 RBIs, and batted .315, earning his third career AL MVP award in the simulation

While another MVP season from Judge would be welcome, seeing Bellinger and Williams traded midseason would be shocking. And after coming so close to a championship in 2024, blowing a 3-1 lead in the World Series would be absolutely devastating.

Luckily, this is only a computer simulation of 2025; the real thing has to be better, right?
