Coco Gauff insisted that she “did not have much information” about Novak Djokovic’s PTPA lawsuit against the ATP, WTA, ITF and the ITIA, but mentioned that she would love to see players getting a bit more money.

In a lawsuit that stunned the entire tennis world, the PTPA is alleging that the governing bodies have absolute and “monopolistic control” – which pretty much left players in “an unfair system.” The PTPA specifically underlined their concerns regarding “anti-competitive practices and a blatant disregard for player welfare.”

Following her opening win at the Miami Open win over Sofia Kenin, Gauff was asked about the matter. Answering the question, the 2023 US Open champion started by explaining that she didn’t knew that much about the entire thing since she only learned about it through Instagram.

“For me, I guess the biggest thing would be more of a percentage of the revenue in prize money,” the world No. 3 added.

Gauff highlights she isn’t complaining about her money

The former world No. 2 – who turned 21 this month – has netted $23 million in tournament prize money so far in her career. And she is happy about how she is paid as a female tennis star.

“I also can’t sit here and complain. I’m a professional athlete, I get paid pretty well to do what I love. The amount of work isn’t equal to the reward – I’m an athlete, there’s people who do much harder things in this world,” Gauff noted.

But while the American tennis star is happy with her money, she admits that she would still like to see male and female players being compensated more equally.

“Obviously for the women’s side of things making as many tournaments as we can equal to the men when it comes to prize money. There’s a whole other thing when it comes to visibility and things like that we can also improve on,” Gauff highlighted.

Meanwhile, the WTA completely dismissed the PTPA’s lawsuit by ripping it as “regrettable and misguided.”
