New York YankeesĀ catcher Austin Wells is definitely ready for the regular season.
The 25-year-old Wells has tormented opposing pitchers this spring, entering play Saturday hitting .366 with five home runs, 10 RBI, and a .780 OPS. Wells, who finished third in AL Rookie of the Year voting, is reaching base at a .319 clip and has already scored 10 runs.
The 2020 first-round pick remains a consistent bright spot amid the Yankeesā various injuries. He’s continuously raised hopes about what heāll do as the undisputed starter.
Wells added to his phenomenal spring Friday night, crushing two homers against theĀ Detroit Tigers. The third-year backstop started things with a leadoff homer far over Publix Fieldās right-field fence.
Not to be outdone, Wells drilled an opposite-field, 383-foot homer in the seventh inning.
Yankees fans appear all in on Wells, who hit 17 home runs and tallied a 2.6 BWAR last season.

Wells appears assured of becoming the first Yankees catcher to hit leadoff. Manager Aaron Boone recently said heās open to alternating Wells and veteranĀ first basemanĀ Paul GoldschmidtĀ atop the lineup.
