Three years ago today, the Miami Dolphins made one of the biggest splashes in franchise history. The team traded five draft picks to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
On the third anniversary of that move, the Six-Time All-Pro is showing gratitude on his X account. When reminded of today’s date, Hill tweeted that the trade “changed my life thank you.”
Last season didn’t go as planned, but Hill’s time in Miami has catapulted the wide receiver to another level. Hill topped 1,700+ receiving yards in his first two seasons in Miami, a step up from his previous career-high of 1,479 set in 2018.
After playing collegiately at Oklahoma State and later West Alabama, the Chiefs drafted Hill in the fifth round (No. 165 overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. Hill has 798 receptions, 11,098 receiving yards, and 95 total touchdowns in nine NFL seasons.
Unfortunately, the wheels fell off last season in Miami. In addition to a much-publicized off-field incident minutes before Week One, Hill reportedly played through multiple injuries in 2024.
Those issues, along with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa only playing 10 games all season, resulted in Hill’s worst statistical output in recent memory. He only managed 959 receiving yards and six touchdowns all season, failing to reach 1,000 receiving yards for the first time since an injury-shortened 2019 season in Kansas City.
A trade out of town was rumored after Hill’s emotional late-season outburst, but those murmurs have quieted down. There’s always a chance the Dolphins move on from the eccentric wide receiver closer to the 2025 NFL Draft, but Hill’s latest tweet shows a player happy where he is.
