Russell Wilson made up his mind on Tuesday, signing a one-year deal with the New York Giants worth $10.5 million.
The 10-time Pro-Bowler can earn up to $21 million on the deal with incentives.
He joins the likes of recently signed veteran Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito as the trio will compete for the starting gig.
Wilson had been in talks with returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers and had appeared on-site for meetings with both the Giants and the Cleveland Browns amid his decision-making process.
With Wilson’s signing, the Giants’ pursuit of bringing on Aaron Rodgers ceases. Rodgers preferred the Minnesota Vikings of his free agency options, but after head coach Kevin O’Connell chose to focus on J.J. McCarthy, the 41-year-old was left with a decision between the Giants and Steelers.

Per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac, Wilson wanted to re-sign with the Steelers “right up until the end.” The Steelers had made it clear they prioritized signing Rodgers after Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz reported last week that they “are fine waiting for Rodgers to make a decision.”
After missing the first six games of the 2024 season with a calf injury, Wilson, 36, stepped in as the starting quarterback for the Steelers upon his return. He finished with a 6-5 record, completing 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
Despite guiding Pittsburgh to the playoffs, the team stumbled down the stretch, losing its final four regular-season games before falling 28-14 to the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Wild Card Round.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the Steelers were never seriously considering re-signing Wilson.
